Professor Gontier is the author of a great number of articles, on man and animal, on humanism from the Renaissance to the present, on Ficino, Pomponazzi, Bacon and others. He has also written on modern thinkers such as Gentile, Heidegger, and Blumenberg. He has edited collected essays and translated various works. He is now primarily interested in the relationship between politics and theology.
Professor Gontier is also the author of several books, notably Eric Voegelin. Symboles du politique (Paris, Michalon, 2008), and has played a major role in the introduction of Voegelin’s thought to the French academic environment. He is currently participating in the French translation of Order and History.
Professor Gontier is a member of many professional societies and is a director of the Collège international de philosophie.
He most recently organized and directed the Colloque international sur « Eric Voegelin. Politique, théologie et histoire », Institut de Recherches Philosophiques de Lyon (IRPhiL), in March, 2009 (with D. Weber).
